National Cancer Survivor Day

Today is National Cancer Survivors day. It will almost be 3 years since I got my diagnosis. Cancer free for 3 years and I am very very grateful. I have read several heartbreaking stories about endometrial cancer and the effects it has had on those women. Women undergoing grueling rounds of chemotherapy, Pain and complications.

I was in denial for quite a while as it all happened so fast during the latter half of COVID and I had a lot to deal with whilst recovering. A friend dying, a break-in followed by a flood in the house.

Within 3 months I had a total hysterectomy and I recovered physically well. Sometimes I can’t wrap my head around being diagnosed in June to being cancer free by the end of August. It happened all so quickly I don’t even know I am a cancer survivor. Even talking about it now I realize how lucky I was although it was the longest 3 months of my life. The standby operation got cancelled and I had to wait for another appointment. Then on the day of my surgery the surgeon caught COVID and couldn’t perform the operation. Luckily they found another surgeon who did a brilliant job.

Looking back I realize how lucky I was and how truly grateful I am today to be here! Its today that I can reflect on this and realize how important our health is. I have taken my health for-granted since. I’ll be honest…
