The Man Who Tricked The Devil
The Tale Of Stingy Jack

The Devil can be easily fooled, as this tale goes! In Ireland, there lived a man who was known as 'Stingy Jack.' Being 'stingy' usually means a person who is unwilling to share with others and is mean and tightfisted when it comes to money. Jack was well known in his village for being a deceiver, and the Devil wanted to see this man's reputation for himself. Other stories say that Jack invited the Devil for a drink. Either way, this man had balls!
So Jack wanted the Devil to buy him a pint of beer but had no money of his own and convinced the Devil to turn it into a coin so he could buy a pint. The Devil saw no objection and transformed himself into a currency, but Jack never bought that pint. Instead, he put the coin in his pocket, where he carried his crucifix, thus trapping the Devil inside the currency.
For the Devil to escape, Jack had to bargain with him that if he removed the crucifix, the Devil would spare his soul for ten years. Since ten years mean nothing to the Devil, it was agreed, and he was released.
Jack knew that once the ten years were up, the Devil would come looking to collect his soul and probably take great pleasure in handling it. Jack, however, had other plans, and once again, the Devil was fooled. This time, Jack was hungry and asked to eat an apple before dying and…
